Bug Found in XRP Ledger One Vote Before Activation, “Mainnet Is Safe”

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) development team announced emergency measures and a software update plan to ensure network stability after discovering a critical flaw ahead of activating a batch amendment designed to process multiple transactions in a single bundle.

According to crypto-focused media outlet U.Today on February 23 (local time), the XRPL Foundation recently reported that a flaw in the batch amendment was identified through its bug bounty program. The bug was detected just before the activation of the XLS-56 amendment, which bundles up to eight transactions into a single wrapper transaction for processing. The feature had secured 28 validator votes in favor—just one short of the required threshold for activation—when the bug report was submitted, leading to an immediate suspension of the process.

XRPL validator Vet reassured the community, emphasizing that the mainnet remains safe because the feature has not yet been activated. Mayukha Vadari, Senior Software Engineer at RippleX, had previously described the amendment as a top-tier enhancement for supporting on-chain revenue-generating app development, but the unexpected flaw has delayed its rollout. Developers are strongly urging validators to vote against the flawed amendment to prevent its implementation on the network.

The discovered issue occurred during the verification process of signature validity within batch transactions. As a solution, a corrective amendment called “fixbatchinnersigs” has been proposed. The XRPL Foundation has officially withdrawn the affected feature and is preparing a new software release that will include a revised version. Following additional verification procedures, the development team plans to distribute a stability-assured update as early as next week.

Once the new software update is released, the existing batch amendment will be fully replaced, and validators will once again undergo a voting process to determine the safe adoption of the updated feature.

This case is being viewed as evidence of the ecosystem’s mature security response capabilities, as the bug was detected before mainnet activation, effectively preventing a potential large-scale network disruption. The XRP community expects that once the update is completed, the previously delayed commercialization of the multi-transaction processing feature will regain momentum.
