XRP (Ripple), which had surged sharply since late 2024, has recently plunged to nearly half of its previous peak. A stern warning has emerged that investors should be cautious about making premature purchases until tangible adoption by major global banks or leading corporations is clearly demonstrated.
According to investment outlet The Motley Fool on February 21 (local time), XRP is currently trading around $1.43, marking a nearly 50% drop from its prior high. Amid strong selling pressure as capital flows out of the broader crypto market, XRP had previously skyrocketed more than 600% between November 2024 and July 2025. The rally was fueled by Donald Trump’s U.S. presidential victory, expectations of pro-crypto policies, and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) decision to withdraw its appeal, pushing the token above $3 for the first time in seven years.
Ripple provides financial institutions with a payments network that enables faster and cheaper cross-border transfers. Banks can use XRP instead of fiat currencies to avoid substantial foreign exchange fees. Investors rushed to buy XRP under the optimistic assumption that two major catalysts—the election victory and the conclusion of the SEC lawsuit—would dramatically boost the token’s real-world network adoption.
However, serious doubts have been raised over whether these rosy expectations have been substantiated by actual fundamentals and concrete data. While Ripple has been adept at promoting network growth through announcements about on-demand liquidity trends and specific achievements, it has not provided the level of transparent and detailed data demanded by professional investors. As a result, it is nearly impossible to clearly assess XRP’s true position and market share within the fiercely competitive fintech landscape.
This lack of transparency has led more investors to question XRP’s underlying potential, which, combined with the broader risk-off sentiment in the crypto market, has contributed to significant selling from its peak. Despite XRP’s innovative technological foundation, skepticism remains widespread over whether its real-world utility and corporate adoption are as meaningful as Ripple suggests.
Ultimately, analysts argue that new purchases should be postponed until major global financial institutions such as JPMorgan Chase or Goldman Sachs, or Fortune 500-level retailers, officially acknowledge that they are substantially utilizing XRP for global capital transfers. Only when clear and verifiable adoption by major institutions is confirmed can XRP’s true value and long-term bullish narrative be fully validated.
