Bitcoin (BTC) is projected to follow the same growth trajectory as Apple, the world’s largest company by market capitalization, and eventually emerge as a core asset of the global financial system.

On February 24 (local time), cryptocurrency-focused outlet TheStreet reported that Strategy Chairman Michael Saylor recently likened Bitcoin to tech giants such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft in their early growth stages during an interview. Saylor stated that Bitcoin goes beyond being merely a currency and functions more like digital real estate or an essential commodity in cyberspace. In particular, he emphasized, “Bitcoin is the most powerful and secure digital asset in the world,” adding that its scarcity—overcoming the limitations of physical assets—acts as a powerful force attracting global capital.

Saylor analyzed that just as Apple once dominated the smartphone market and generated immense wealth for its shareholders, Bitcoin has secured an unparalleled position in the digital asset market. He identified Bitcoin’s core value as being a transparent and secure asset accessible to everyone worldwide. Unlike real estate, which incurs maintenance costs and taxes, digital assets are easy to transfer and store while offering the advantage of preserving value permanently.

The Bitcoin market is currently seeing inflows not only from retail investors but also from major institutions, mirroring the period when big tech companies were incorporated into institutional investors’ portfolios. Saylor assessed that holding Bitcoin is akin to staking an early claim in the future digital economy. In particular, Bitcoin’s fixed supply highlights its appeal as an alternative to fiat currencies, which lose value due to excessive issuance.

Within the crypto industry, Saylor’s remarks are viewed as clearly demonstrating Bitcoin’s long-term value proposition. Although Bitcoin exhibits volatility similar to technology stocks, analysts suggest that in the long run it will solidify its status as a store of value. While many investors react sensitively to short-term price fluctuations, Saylor explained that attention should be focused on the asset’s fundamental innovation from a decades-long perspective.

Amid ongoing transformations in the global financial market, Bitcoin has built its own ecosystem, establishing itself beyond digital gold as digital capital itself. Saylor’s parallel between Bitcoin and big tech companies serves as a key rationale in the process of virtual assets being integrated into mainstream asset classes. Valuation models comparing the market capitalizations of Bitcoin and Apple have become one of the major topics of interest in today’s capital markets.
