Trading Volume Explodes on Upbit and Bithumb as Funds Flow from Bitcoin into XRP
As funds flow out of Bitcoin and Ethereum and move into XRP (Ripple), clear signals are emerging that the market’s short-term leadership may be shifting.
According to cryptocurrency media outlet Bitcoinist on February 18 (local time), amid continued volatility and selling pressure across the broader crypto market, a capital rotation phenomenon has appeared in which investors are reducing their exposure to Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) and reallocating funds to XRP. Market analyst Xaif Crypto noted that over the past few weeks, XRP has quietly absorbed these capital flows.
Data from CoinShares shows that digital asset investment products recorded outflows for four consecutive weeks, with cumulative outflows reaching $173 million. During this period, more than $133 million exited Bitcoin and approximately $85.1 million left Ethereum, while XRP recorded inflows of $33.4 million. The fact that funds flowed into XRP despite weak price action is interpreted as a short-term positioning shift in anticipation of relative outperformance.
Demand for XRP was also prominent in the Korean market. Coin Bureau reported in a post on X that XRP recorded $1.2 billion in 24-hour trading volume on major domestic exchanges such as Upbit and Bithumb. During the same period, Bitcoin posted $284.97 million and Ethereum $304.41 million. This means XRP significantly outpaced BTC and ETH in regional trading activity.
Although this trend indicates strengthening short-term preference for XRP, prices have yet to follow with a strong rebound. At the time of reporting, XRP was trading at $1.47, up 0.17% over the past 24 hours. However, according to CoinMarketCap data, 24-hour trading volume has plunged by more than 47%, suggesting that short-term sentiment remains unstable.
Market experts note that capital rotation is occurring in real time and say that if demand expansion continues, the possibility of XRP’s short-term trend shifting back to an upward trajectory cannot be ruled out. However, given the persistent overall market volatility, further confirmation is needed to determine whether the fund flows represent a temporary shift.
