Coinbase CEO Says Bitcoin Can Save People from Crippling Inflation

Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, warned about the harmful impact of inflation on low-income households and emphasized the potential of Bitcoin (BTC) as a means of economic relief.

According to crypto media outlet The Crypto Basic on February 24 (local time), Armstrong recently stated on X (formerly Twitter) that inflation acts as the harshest “hidden tax” on low-income individuals holding cash, exacerbating economic inequality. He pointed out that while the wealthy preserve value through assets such as Bitcoin, real estate, and stocks, ordinary people with limited investment options suffer directly from the decline in currency value.

Armstrong explained that digital assets, including Bitcoin, can dramatically broaden financial access by offering a low barrier to entry for anyone with an internet connection. According to him, virtual assets function not merely as investment vehicles but as foundational infrastructure for achieving economic freedom. He added that countries embracing these technologies are likely to benefit from capital inflows and economic growth.

His remarks are drawing attention amid political efforts to pass the U.S. crypto market structure bill, known as the CLARITY Act. In a recent discussion, Armstrong and U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno expressed optimism that the bill could pass by April. Analysts suggest that clearer regulations would enable coexistence between the banking sector and the crypto industry, ultimately delivering greater benefits to consumers.

The role of digital assets is also being highlighted in the context of global financial leadership. Armstrong referenced China’s push to develop an interest-bearing central bank digital currency (CBDC), warning that the United States must establish competitive stablecoin policies to maintain its global financial leadership. He cautioned that failure to build an innovative digital asset environment could weaken the country’s financial competitiveness.
