BeInCrypto reported that emails have been identified indicating that Jeffrey Epstein mentioned plans to discuss digital currencies with Gary Gensler in 2018. According to the released Epstein files, in a May 2018 email Epstein wrote to former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers, “Gary Gensler is coming over soon and wants to talk about digital currency.” At the time, Gensler was a professor at MIT teaching courses on blockchain and digital currencies. In addition, Department of Justice documents show that Epstein donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the MIT Media Lab’s Digital Currency Initiative and invested $3 million in Coinbase in 2014. However, the released documents do not include confirmed evidence of any direct financial relationship or actual meeting between Epstein and Gensler.
