Bitwise CEO Says Rising Bitcoin Volatility Is an Opportunity for Institutional Investors
Even as Bitcoin (BTC) price volatility expands, the pace at which large institutional investors are entering the market is accelerating, speeding up a structural upgrade of the market.
As of February 8 (local time), Hunter Horsley, CEO of digital asset manager Bitwise, assessed that institutional interest has surged to an all-time high despite the recent price correction. He noted that large asset managers and pension funds that were sitting on the sidelines just months ago are now establishing concrete allocation strategies and emerging as active buyers.
The key drivers behind institutional entry are the successful establishment of spot Bitcoin ETFs and greater regulatory clarity. Horsley analyzed that the market has moved beyond a retail investor–driven speculative phase to a stage where professional money managers include Bitcoin for portfolio diversification. In particular, political changes in the United States combined with a more crypto-friendly policy stance have significantly lowered barriers to entry for institutions.
Horsley explained that the current price pullback actually offers institutions an attractive entry point. With a long-term perspective, institutions focus more on scarcity and Bitcoin’s value as digital gold than on short-term volatility, creating downside rigidity that firmly supports price floors. The actions of companies like Strategy (MicroStrategy), which accumulates Bitcoin at scale, are also acting as catalysts that strengthen institutional confidence.
According to Bitwise’s analysis, institutional capital inflows are expected to expand further after the first quarter of this year. Since the share of total Bitcoin supply held by institutions remains at an early stage, there is ample room for additional inflows. Horsley projected that strong buying pressure arising as asset managers increase Bitcoin allocations in response to client demand will drive a new upward cycle in the market.
Ultimately, the crypto market is evolving into a mature, institution-centric financial ecosystem, reducing volatility and entering a path of stable growth. The influx of large-scale capital demonstrates that Bitcoin has established itself as an essential asset class within mainstream finance, beyond a passing trend. Investors should focus less on short-term price fluctuations and more on changes in institutional holdings and policy trends when formulating long-term asset allocation strategies.
