As organized attempts to manipulate public opinion to undermine the value of specific assets have been detected in the digital asset market, investors are being urged to exercise heightened caution.
According to cryptocurrency-focused outlet The Crypto Basic on February 7 (local time), a digital asset influencer known as Pumpius, who has been active since 2013, revealed that he was recently offered $25,000 in exchange for publicly attacking Ripple and XRP. The proposal, delivered via private message, even included a detailed script instructing him to label Ripple as a scam and spread false information claiming he had sold all of his XRP holdings.
The core of the script disclosed by Pumpius revolved around claims that Ripple and prominent influencers were destroying investors’ wealth. The proposer offered unusually aggressive terms, promising to pay half upfront before posting and the remainder afterward, but Pumpius declined and instead chose to inform the public of what he described as a despicable attempt at opinion manipulation.
This revelation has intensified suspicions that negative sentiment surrounding XRP may be shaped through organized financial backing. Pumpius argued that the repetitive appearance of similar logic and language across multiple accounts points more toward paid operatives than independent critics, adding that the timing of these attacks reflects the desperation of forces seeking to suppress XRP.
Other industry figures have shared similar experiences, lending weight to the allegations. Dom Kwok, co-founder of EasyA, said he has also received many comparable offers, some proposing significantly larger sums. Kwok stressed that the current situation is evidence of a serious and organized anti-XRP lobbying effort aimed at undermining trust in the asset, and urged the community not to be swayed by paid attacks but to remain focused on its core mission.
The digital asset community has long faced sustained attacks from competing projects or specific groups, but it is rare for concrete amounts and detailed scripts to be publicly disclosed as in this case. Experts note that this incident is not solely a Ripple issue but an example of how public opinion on major cryptocurrencies can be distorted. Investors, they warn, should always remain alert to the possibility of intentional manipulation behind sensational and negative narratives.
