Concerns are spreading over the United States’ hawkish macroeconomic outlook. As a result, Bitcoin (BTC) has fallen below the $67,000 level, increasing volatility in the cryptocurrency market.

According to Bloomberg on February 11 (local time), Bitcoin came under downward pressure and dropped below $67,000 as investors digested the U.S. interest rate path and key economic indicators. Unlike the relatively resilient performance of the New York stock market, the cryptocurrency market is showing a differentiated decline from equities. Market participants are reacting sensitively to signals that the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy stance may be more aggressive than previously expected.

Position adjustments by global financial institutions have also weighed on investor sentiment. Goldman Sachs reduced its holdings of spot Bitcoin ETFs by approximately 40% in the fourth quarter of last year. The withdrawal of funds by such major institutions has acted as a key factor adding downward pressure on the market. Meanwhile, at domestic cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb, a system error resulted in a $40 billion Bitcoin trading glitch, heightening uncertainty over internal system flaws and further fueling market confusion.

Despite the broader market downturn, long-term investors are showing mixed responses. Michael Saylor, founder of MicroStrategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, recently announced additional Bitcoin purchases, maintaining a bullish outlook. Saylor reaffirmed his confidence in Bitcoin’s scarcity and its potential as a store of value despite short-term price volatility. Cryptocurrency analysts warn that if Bitcoin fails to quickly reclaim the $67,000 support level, further price corrections may be inevitable.

The cryptocurrency market is likely to remain highly volatile for the time being as hawkish economic indicators coincide with institutional profit-taking. For Bitcoin’s price to halt its decline, improvements in the macroeconomic environment and renewed institutional capital inflows will be necessary. Investors should closely monitor upcoming U.S. inflation data and interest rate decisions while focusing on risk management.
