Experts say XRP is emerging beyond a mere speculative asset to become the purest form of collateral capable of underpinning the global financial system.
According to cryptocurrency news outlet The Crypto Basic on February 7 (local time), Jake Claver, CEO of Digital Ascension Group, pointed out that 99% of XRP holders do not even properly understand what they own. He described XRP not as a speculative asset, but as foundational infrastructure—like oxygen needed for a new financial system to breathe—placing a high value on its role.
Claver’s assessment aligns with Ripple’s recently announced institutional decentralized finance (DeFi) roadmap. Under this plan, the XRP Ledger (XRPL) is evolving beyond a simple payments network into a comprehensive financial layer supporting tokenized assets, foreign exchange trading, collateral management, and on-chain lending. At the center of this ecosystem, XRP will serve as a core utility, providing settlement, fees, FX bridge functions, and collateral liquidity.
The boom in real-world asset tokenization on XRPL is cited as strong evidence supporting Claver’s view. Currently, more than $1.14 billion worth of tokenized commodities are listed on the XRP Ledger, accounting for over half of all real-world assets on the network. As various commodities such as energy-based tokens and diamonds are tokenized and traded, XRP is solidifying its unique position as a settlement and collateral instrument in these markets.
Ripple plans to further accelerate institutional on-chain financial activity by introducing a native lending protocol. Early institutional participants such as Evernorth are already planning capital deployment to enhance yield generation and liquidity efficiency, and XRP is expected to penetrate deeply into real financial workflows as both a lending asset and a settlement layer. Advanced features such as smart escrow and confidential transfers are also accelerating the creation of an institution-friendly ecosystem.
Market prices have responded quickly to these fundamental shifts. After sliding to $1.11 amid a broad market sell-off on February 5, XRP rebounded more than 35% to $1.53, driven by renewed institutional confidence and accumulation by large holders. Claver emphasized its long-term potential, stating, “XRP is not competing with existing assets, but will be used as a core tool to move value and improve balance sheets within a tokenized financial system.”
